Music
Our Music lead is Mrs O'Donnell
Intent
At Peel Brow School, we believe that a quality Music curriculum should develop children’s love of music. Pupils are exposed to a wide range of music genres to develop a love of music and develop a deeper understanding of different genres. We aim for children to discuss their own preferences and discuss how music makes them feel. Pupils follow a clear progression of knowledge and skills to develop their understanding and their ability to play a range of musical instruments, improvise and perform pieces of music. The skills which will be acquired at Peel Brow aim to ensure that pupils are equipped with the tools they need to participate fully as a member of society.
Implementation
These aims are embedded across our music lessons and the wider curriculum. Peel Brow School uses a programme called Charanga to enhance music lessons. Teachers deliver the Music curriculum and framework that provides many purposeful opportunities for appraising, improvising and performing music. They learn to appraise, play, improvise and perform a wide range of music from a variety of genres and cultures.
Impact
The intended impact for pupils at Peel Brow School is clear: progress, sustained learning and transferrable skills in music. Pupils are able to discuss genres and identify them when listening to music. Pupils are able to compose, improvise and play their own musical pieces.
Please see below for our Long Term Plan . From time to time, this plan may change as teachers adapt the learning to suit the needs of the children.
