Year 5

Welcome to Year 5!

Hello! This year, your teachers are Miss Harwood and Mr Reghai and we are thrilled to be teaching this class in Year 5! We are so excited for the year ahead and can’t wait for all the fun things we have planned!

Miss Harwood: I have a passion for reading and keeping active so I’m looking forward to organising lots of sports competitions throughout the year.  Spending time with family is very important to me and my son and I, love embarking on new adventures and exploring the beautiful hills of Rossendale (even better if it’s in the sun)!

Mr Reghai: I love football, boxing, food, reading and most of all…shoes! I cant wait to get back to normality and making learning fun!

The Year Five week is split between myself and Mr Reghai teaching, with support from Miss Wight. PE will be on Tuesdays and Thursdays so their PE kit (white t shirt and black shorts with pumps or black trainers)  must be in school on these days. Unless they are wearing them to a club or they need washing, these should be kept in school until half term.

Children need a water bottle in school everyday and their reading records will be checked on a Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

From the second half of Autumn term, homework will be as follows:

  • Children will be given a 10-minute Weekly Workout in English and Maths. Children will receive their own CGP workbooks.
  • Children will be given a list of spellings to learn which will follow the spelling patterns taught in their phased groups or linked to curriculum.
  • Children are expected to read at home for at least 10 minutes each day. The Reading Record book should be completed and signed by an adult.
  • A half-termly creative learning grid will be provided which provides open-ended activities which cover the whole curriculum.
  • Learning of number bonds and multiplication facts is ongoing and a mental maths test will take place in school each week.

If you have any queries throughout the year, please do not hesitate to email either of us.
