Year 4

Welcome to our Year 4 class page!

I’m Miss Callus and I am so excited to be teaching in Year 4 this year! I love chocolate, drama, reading and watching films. My French background also means I am very enthusiastic when it comes to teaching language lessons.

We are so lucky to have Mrs Etchells as our class teaching assistant. She works very hard to support Year 4 in their learning throughout the school day.

Things to remember

PE is on a Wednesday and led by the excellent Ed Start. PE kits and a change of shoes should be brought into school every Wednesday.

Remember to also bring your water bottle to class every day! It’s important to stay hydrated during the day.

Reading is a vital part of Year 4’s learning journey as it provides children with a wealth of general knowledge and encourages imaginative minds. Reading unlocks learning across all areas of the curriculum. Our expectation is that children read their reading book at home at least 3 times a week, aiming to change their book at least once weekly. It is already so wonderful to see children reading for pleasure in class after choosing their own book from our class library.

Each week, children will be given a spelling list, ready for their ‘Spelling Challenge’ each Friday. Results will be written into their green Homework Books so that family can celebrate their child’s efforts and achievements.

In Year 4, we will be practising our times tables regularly as these are essential building blocks to children’s mathematical skills and learning. This will also prepare children for the Statutory Multiplication Check in June 2022. Any practice at home (for example, Times Tables Rock Stars) would be hugely beneficial!

Next half term, revision books focusing on English and maths will be sent home. We would ask that one task from each book be completed weekly (each task will only take up to 10 minutes).

There will also be an open-ended task based on our wider curriculum area that spans across the half term. This aims to enable children to expand on and revise their wider curriculum knowledge by completing some of the tasks from the menu. This will be added into their green Homework Books so that it can be easily located.
