Welcome to Year 1/ 2!
We are based in a lovely sunny classroom only a few steps away from the playground area. We have a strong ethos within our class of teamwork and belonging. The older pupils in the class enjoy being role models to the youngest and we are never short of smiles!
Mrs. Nelson is our TEACHER. She likes to eat seafood and enjoys spending time with family and walking her dog. She also likes to visit different places on holiday – Wales is her favourite so far. We also are lucky enough to sometimes have Mrs. Munir and Mrs. Araya helping us to shine in our work.
PE is on a Monday and led by Ed Start. So, it is a good idea to bring PE kits and a change of shoes in at the start of the week.
Reading feeds into all we do, and we believe that you can never read too much, its also fine to re-read books – there’s always something new that you can come across.
Parents, please jot a comment in your child’s reading record and we will also write in top tips for successful home reading. Please bring readers in every day and read at least three times per week – so that we can change them regularly and provide extra reads on top of the twice weekly teacher read. We shall also be sending an extra book home which links with the phonics sounds learnt that week.
Each Friday we will send home a set of 10 spellings to learn for a little test the next Friday. Scores will be written into Reading Record books so that you can praise and support at home.
Next half term a phonics homework book will be sent home – please keep these at home and we will let you know which pages to do each week via text – this linked learning will let the children show you what they have been learning at school and provide extra phonics practice.
Children will also have an English or Mathematics activity each week and a half termly creative learning grid will be provided with activities to choose from that are open ended and cover the whole curriculum.
Please remember to bring in a filled water bottle each day – hydration is important to learning as are happy children and parent/carers, so please keep in touch with any concerns and of course celebrations of your child’s successes – working in partnership with you is important to us and your child.
