I am Mrs Nelson the Leader of the Foundation Stage Unit. I am also a member of the Senior Leadership Team. I also oversee the areas of Parental Engagement and Assessment for Learning.
I have been a teacher for 19 years and gained my BA degree and PGCE at Manchester Metropolitan University- specialising in the area of Early Years.
I worked in Oldham for many years where I set up an Early Years two form entry Unit then came to work here at Peel Brow a couple of years after having my two children (who also attended Peel Brow).
My links with Peel Brow school stretch back many years as I was a pupil in the first ever Reception class here! I enjoy the school sense of community - everyone pulls together and I love working with the pupils and their families.
I lead a very happy and supportive team in EYFS - everyday is different and I like thinking of creative ways to engage the children to develop their learning. We are very creative with our resources and sometimes create interest in shops when I buy various things eg many tea bag strainers to develop the children's hand muscles to enable them to become writing ready!
I have been on many courses over the years - OTP (outstanding teacher programme) and the LDP (Leadership Development Programme) for example.
I am lucky in that I have links with other Early Years professionals within Bury LA and I have been an EYFS moderator for Bury LA for the past 4 years.
I am proud of all we do in the unit but one of our main highlights are the many competitions that we have won in the area of ICT for Early Years through the Bury Authority Media Awards.
I tweet everyday on our whole school twitter page to show parents/carers the activities that we offer and how the children are engaged in their learning - everyday is different!
Mrs J Nelson
